A private hummingbird sanctuary, plus the prettiest bay in Trinidad.
Nine miles east of the Port of Spain is the lush, hillside home of Theo and Gloria Ferguson, Trinidad residents and bird lovers who a few years ago began opening up their property to visitors interested in viewing and photographing the area’s native hummingbird population. Today, the sanctuary is one of the most popular attractions in the area, though it’s accessible by appointment only. After communing with the birds, head north to gorgeous Maracas Bay for lunch and epic Caribbean views.
