Como Park

Como Park St. Paul

St. Paul’s largest park is the place to be no matter the time of the year.

Named after Lake Como in the Italian Alps, Como Park is a 384-acre oasis located a few miles northwest of downtown St. Paul. Start your trip at the donation-only Como Park Zoo, which began with three deer in 1897 and quickly grew to house polar bears, wolves, Galapagos tortoises, sloths and other animals. Visitors can feed giraffes, observe gorillas in their newly redesigned habitat and gawk at a 20-foot-long anaconda. Don’t miss Polar Bear Odyssey—a world-class exhibit that allows visitors to get so close that only a sheet of plexiglass stands between them and the world’s largest predator. Another highlight is Gorilla Forest, the largest all-mesh gorilla enclosure in North America. Next door to the zoo you’ll find Marjorie McNeely Conservatory, a Victorian glasshouse featuring exotic plants, colorful birds and luxurious humidity (especially in the winter months). It appeals to visitors year-round with its displays of bonsai trees, orchids, seasonal flowers, Sunken Garden (look for the koi fish), towering palms and Fern Room. Also, adjacent to the zoo is the family-friendly Como Town Amusement Park, with dozens of rides appropriate for young children.

  • Como Lake Boat Rentals. Lake Como is perfect for a relaxed kayak or paddleboat ride, both of which are available to rent at the Como Lake Boat Docks.
  • Como Park Golf Course. The 18-hole golf course is located just north of Como Park and is notorious for its tricky water hazards and rolling, well-bunkered greens.
