There’s a lot more than shopping at the largest mall in the United States.
At 5.4 million square feet, Mall of America is the largest shopping mall in the United States. Housed within its massive walls are more than 520 stores on four levels, restaurants, a comedy club, an aquarium, a mini-golf course and the seven-acre Nickelodeon Universe theme park. This megamall attracts more than 40 million visitors every year—more than the combined populations of North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa and all of Canada. Insider tip: There’s no sales tax on clothing, so do as many tourists do and bring an extra suitcase to load up for your trip home. Insider tip #2: Mall of America is continuing its quest to be the biggest and best with a $500 million, 1 million-square-foot addition called “The Collections at MOA.” The luxury retail wing is tentatively scheduled to open in October 2018 and will house high-end boutiques and office space.
- Downtown Minneapolis. The city’s core boasts the Mississippi River, the trendy North Loop neighborhood, a theater district and three pro sports stadiums.
- Downtown St. Paul. Hip restaurants, a pro hockey arena (Xcel Energy Center) and historic areas such as Rice Park round out this urban center.
- Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport. Minnesota’s largest airport is just north of the mall.
