Water takes center stage at this aquarium-packed wonderland.
It all started in 1964 when four UCLA fraternity brothers dreamed of opening an underwater restaurant. That idea never came to life, but something bigger did: a literal sea world in San Diego, filled with saltwater aquariums, animals, educational exhibits and shows. SeaWorld Orlando opened in 1973, relying first on its shows and exhibits as the only entertainment. It later added educational rides like the Manta—a “flying” roller coaster that whips riders over and around water, mimicking the smooth movements of the manta rays in the nearby Manta Aquarium. SeaWorld continues to innovate, cranking out new rides like Kraken, which joins virtual-reality technology with old-school roller coaster tricks.
